True confession.
I have a love-hate relationship with the Animated GIF. Own it, people. You know, as well as I do, that some of them could squirt right out of a can and onto a cracker. There are some that we just can’t unsee. Burned on the brain foreverrrr. But then… I watch them again. (The first step to recovery is admitting I have a problem.) Something in me wants to see what the fuss is about. Thousands of likes on Facebook? Truth be told, I rarely make it through more than the first 5 seconds. Maybe it’s just me. Or, maybe Obama on a skateboard is the epitome of entertainment. Hate to say it, but I think Grumpy Cat trumps the leader of the free world.
And then there are those darn, irksome elves. How many of my FB friends would put their faces onto the body of elves? Oh, “Elf Yourself,” how you vex me! Ridiculous. Reee.Diculous. I would find myself mocking those bobbling heads.
Until the day my hubbie said, “Look at this.”
Drat. And just like that. I was sucked in. Staring back at me from an iPad screen were my very own adorable, little people, decked out in red and green stripes, perched atop the bodies of computer- animated dancers. Not only did I watch more than a few seconds, I was glued to the screen repeatedly. What was happening to me? Had I become an elfer… doomed to post videos of my jirating babies and entertaining thoughts of winning the grand prize on America’s Funniest Home Videos?
To be memorable. To be tweet-worthy or Facebook-likeable, an Animated GIF needs something extra…. the right star. The right person. And that’s how they get you. That’s how the Animated GIF Burst works… for you. People want to watch something that they connect with. That connection can be as simple as seeing their own faces on dancing elves, a crazy comic strip or seeing their friends’ faces doing something ridiculous. Make a person laugh. Make them feel something good. And you have your hook. Line. And Sinker.
Whether you’re hosting a sweet sixteen, bar mitzvah or 40th birthday… Maybe planning your next tradeshow or re-branding event? Comic-Con or Vidcon? Put the animated gif burst to work for you. It draws people in and causes them to invest in your event.
Heck. Try it now.
(We’ll even give you a lil something.)
